THE PROCEDURE
The word LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
Aesthetic lasers deliver an intense beam of light to gently remove unwanted, damaged, or diseased cells without harming the surrounding healthy cells. The light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormal dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the vessel or lesion, and the body begins its natural healing process. The lesion will darken before it flakes off or fade as the body absorbs it.
Treatment may vary from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. First, the treated area is cleansed and a cool gel is applied. When the pulse of light is delivered, the sensation is similar to the snap of a rubber band. Gel and cool air is applied on the treated area to decrease the sensation of the treatment. After the treatment, the skin is cleansed, and sunscreen is applied.
WHAT IS A VASCULAR LESION?
Skin blemishes due to abnormal blood vessels located directly under skin’s surface gives the skin a red color called vascular lesions. Port Wine stains, strawberry hemangiomas and spider veins (telangiectasias) are all forms of vascular lesions.

WHAT IS A PIGMENTED LESION?
Pigmented lesions are caused by a proliferation of melanocytes in the skin. Melanocytes are cells that manufacture melanin, which is the dark pigment in the skin. Most of us have some form of pigmented lesion. They include brown age spots (lentigines), freckles (ephileds), and moles (nevi).
Lesions without color are called non-pigmented lesions. They include warts and skin tags.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
This depends on the size, location, dept and color of your lesion. Spider veins on the face and age spots generally do well with one or two treatments, while darker or deeper birthmarks may require additional treatments. Port Wine stains and hemangiomas usually experience satisfactory result from laser treatments, however as many as six to eight treatment sessions may be required. Treatments should be placed 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow your body to remove the maximum amount of pigment cells. As your body disposes of the pigmented cells you would continue to see a lightening of your lesions after each treatment. The laser reduces the appearance of wrinkles by encouraging new collagen growth so, wrinkle improvement is gradual. At the time of your third treatment, nine to twelve weeks after your initial treatment, you would begin to note reduction in lines and wrinkles. For optimal results, a series of 3 to 8 treatments are recommended. Follow up treatments are recommended to maintain results after a course of treatments. Some conditions can prove so dramatic that once they are removed they do not return.
SAFETY & RESULTS
Lasers have been used successfully in hundreds of thousands of treatments and are considered safe, gentle and effective.
Do treatments for skin lesion hurt?
There is minimal discomfort during treatment. Some clients say they feel a slight sting, like the snap of a rubber band on the skin, followed by the feeling of sunburn. Many treatments do not require anesthetics.
Clients have a high degree of satisfaction with the results. Expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size and fine lines. After each treatment, the skin would feel smoother and appear more even toned. This exciting treatment involves little or no “down time”. You can resume to normal activates immediately after your treatment.

POST-OPERATIVE CARE
In most cases, little specific post-operative care is necessary. Mild burning sensations and redness can be treated with ice packs and oral pain medication. In cases where slight blistering may occur, a topical antiseptic cream can be applied. Sun exposure should be avoided, and SPF 15 or greater sunscreen, should be used.
Side effects are rare. Immediately following a treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown-pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may be more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/or blistering can occur for a few hours or on rare occasion, a couple of days.
All these reactions are superficial on the area, the lesion will darken before it flakes or fades off as the body absorbs it. Clients may experience transient pigment changes such as lightening or darkening of the skin, which may take a few days to clear.
